Reading and imagination

November 26, 2008

Again the topic of reading worries me much. Unfortunately, people read not very much and that is why the majority of them are uninteresting interlocutors. Well, of course, people may also discuss movies, but constant watching them spoils your imagination. You lose skills to imagine things. You need to see everything with your own eyes. If you read a lot, you have an ability to listen to a rendering of a story attentively and it isn’t really boring for you. When you read books, you imagine the events, people, things and so on. These skills can be applied to the conversation as well. Those people, who watch movies only, usually don’t like to listen to the plot of a movie but prefer to watch it themselves. Of course, you may say, that it is always better to see everything with your own eyes and it refers not only to movies but also to all events which may occur, but I want to say that if you don’t read books, you become unable to dream. This is very serious, as it is very difficult to live in this world without this wonderful ability to dream. Our life is sometimes boring and monotonous and it is natural for a person to wish something unusual and extraordinary. It is so very understandable that it is impossible to get everything we want at once. What shall we do then? The answer is very simple: to dream! Everything, which is unavailable now and here can be reached in our dreams. As you see, reading is vital for our well-being and psychological health. Read books, mainly novels, love stories and fiction, develop your imaginations and dream about better life! This is my piece of advice to you, I have experienced it myself and am sure that you will appreciate it when you read more!

Reading is very important in human life. Each person spends at least several hours for reading a week. Though, of course, we must admit, that in case with younger generation this amount of hours is much less in comparison with grown-ups. Besides, the stuff older people, middle-aged ones and youngsters read differs greatly. Our grandfathers and grandmothers prefer to read serious newspapers, where they can find everything they need: politics, culture, arts as well as gossips, rumors and other low-grade information, if we can call this information. Elderly people still want to find out something new and some facts to ponder about. As for middle-aged people, they are more practical. They usually read something to get information which could prompt them how to plan their future and how to spend their time. They are not inclined to read something unnecessary and unimportant. Though, of course we can come across middle-aged persons, who like to read low-brow press. They are mainly housewives and those, who have an opportunity to sit at home and do nothing. Youngsters prefer youth magazines. There they can find a lot of interesting facts about celebrities, their lives and the way they usually spend their free time. Young people also like to read about dating, tips how to get acquainted in different places and situations, etc. Their parents often complain that their children read a little and are very glad when they see their offspring reading these magazines. They think that it is better for their children to read something than loiter their time away. However, when they look through the staff written there they change their mind and sometimes they even think that it is better to be illiterate than to read such stupid things. This is one of the manifestations of generation gap. It is very difficult for different generations to get along with each other. It is so very understandable, because these generations are polarities.
